Well i keep saying to everyone that comes in our Bistro' that wherever you go in Italy there is a treasure waiting to be discovered even if you have already been there once and this was the case on our latest Genuine Italian Food Tours Adventure in Moniga del Garda small village on Lake Garda South-West side. We arrived on Thursday at Agriturismo "Il Barone" www.agriturismoilbarone.it and Bed&Breakfast Vi e Ulif www.vieulif.it after a short transfer from Verona Airport. We settled in our beautiful rooms and without any further hesitation headed down to the little harbour where we started in style our Tour with few aperitifs at Il Bar del Porto admiring the fantastic view over the Lake and making the most of the weather because "The Day After......", anyway, in the evening we all gather and walk few hundred yards to the Osteria "Suer e Garbino" where the Chef Saulo della Valle (i nick named him Heston Bluementhal for his modern cooking tricks) delighted us with some of his signature dishes using local fresh produce and the seasonal fish from the Lake called Coregone and to finish we have been treated to a real Heston Show when Saulo created in front of us ice Cream made from grape juice using Liquid Nytrogen and after that we all experienced the Exploding Meringue....wahoooooooo!!!!! Througout the meal we drunk superb wine from Cascina Belmonte Winery(Serese, white wine, blend of Riesling Renano and Incrocio Manzoni; Le Vin en Rose, rose wine, blend of different grapes and Singia, Red Wine 100% grpaes without any sulphites)gand Enrico the proud owner and producer of this small reality whose philosophy focus on producing wines with not only no added Sulphites but actually by reducing the natural content of them to a very minimum and in cases completely removing them obtaining wines with a distinctive flavour that will delight your palate......and sure they did all eveningwww.cascinabelmonte.it Friday we headed for an experience that none of us, included me, was ready for....We visited the "Vittoriale degli Italiani" in Gardone Riviera an imposing House with its garden, sculptures, open air theatre overlooking Lake Garda where one the most important and influential artist/novellist in Italian Literature as well as 1st World War Hero lived for the last 20 years of his life, Gabriele D'Annunzio who died in 1938. Shocking at times to say the least but left us all with the desire of knowing more about this more than intriguing Figure. In late afternoon we hopped on the bus for a short drive to meet Mauro and Gian Pietro Trevisani of Trevisani Winery www.trevisanionline.it We visited few wineries during our tours but this one is amongst the very special one, the views from the plato where some of the vineyards grow are stunning and the wines produced with such love and passion in small quantities are superb (and are available in our Bistro') Next to the winery is the Agriturismo and Restaurant where we were treated to another stunning dinner with local charcuterie, home made Ravioli with broad beans and toasted hazelnut sauce and Tagliatelle with duck followed by roasted stuffed rabbit(apologies as is a traditional dish) finished with apple tart with vanilla cream and cream custard semifreddo drizzled with chocolate all washed down with the Trevisani's Wines starting from the Lugana, Diana blend of Rebo and Merlot grapes, Suer blend of Merlot and Rebo grapes. Saturday the weather was slightly better, overcast but no rain so after breakfast some of us got on the local bus and went to Salo' about 15 minutes from Moniga where we walked and shopped around the local weekly market and the food session was unbelievable with all the fresh seasonal vegetable stalls, cheese and charcuterie of all kinds and sizes, fresh meat and fish and more...slowly we than walked down to the promenade where we stopped and had a light lunch in a Restaurant overlooking the lake and the little Isola del Garda with views of the mountains around us, the luscious green of the trees reflecting on the flat calm lake water and just watch the world go by in such a picture perfect setting made it ever so special that we decided that we will definately go back next year for more.... In the evening....well that was a completely different story... I put my chef's white on and cooked dinner for all of us, little antipasto with Lonzino, slame nostrano, goat cheese, asparagus and bruschetta, followed by risotto with prawns, basil and lemon, next was chicken in white wine lemon and garlic shoots with roast potatoes, courgettes and green beans and we finished with a deliciously yummy (Maria's Birthday Cake) sponge cake filled with creme patissiere and covered with fresh cream and fruit made by the local patisserie. We toasted at the evening with fantastic Franciacorta Brut Cornaleto and the Franciacorta Rose Cornaleto from Mr Imer Vezzola www.cornaleto.it owner with his daughter Tatiana of Agriturismo "Il Barone". Sunday day of departure the sun, the clear blue sky gave us a true glimpse of how beautiful this part of Italy truly is but as always the real difference was the Fantastic Group of People that joined myself and Molly during this trip and the many memories, laughs and sheer enjoyment we all shared. Thank You
